New Addition to the Museum Collection

During the search for interesting vehicles for the "Hart voor DAF days," we came across a unique car just a stone's throw away from the Museum. At the transport company Fons Verschuren in Geldrop, we found a beautiful DAF FAV 2300 4x4 from 1994.

This vehicle is one of a series of 35 units. Originally, the car was intended for a fire truck conversion. However, due to the bankruptcy of the company that was supposed to handle the conversion, the vehicles returned to DAF.

Verschuren, as a long-time loyal DAF customer since the 1950s, was immediately interested in one of these vehicles, and the deal was quickly made.

The wheelbase of 4000 mm was extended to 4500 mm. A Hiab and a LeeBur crane installation were mounted on the chassis. The vehicle became the pride and joy of father and sons Verschuren, which is still evident in the excellent condition it is in today.

For ice control, the Municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo used the vehicle from 2009 to 2004 to keep the roads free of ice in the expansive rural area.

Immediately after the spreading activities, the vehicle was thoroughly cleaned and carefully polished.

It was also used for transporting sand and gravel to and from construction sites. Since 2016, the vehicle has been rarely used. It was deemed a shame to leave the vehicle standing in a shed on an industrial estate. Thus, the vehicle has been added to the Museum's collection on a temporary loan basis.
